With my colleagues at Brown University School of Medicine, I have been developing a series of self-paced training modules that focus on the mastery of key MI skills. The first three modules will address reflective listening, rolling with resistance, and collaborative teaching, respectively. We will be pilot testing these modules with pediatricians, patient centered medical home staff, and psychiatric rehabilitation counselors. The 3rd edition of Miller & Rollnick’s Motivational Interviewing textbook has just been released by Guilford Press. This edition includes major revisions of the theory of MI, with the introduction of a four processes model of MI, emphasizing the key roles of engagement, focusing, evocation, and planning in motivational interviewing.
